1. Work on general listening skills

The test is to check if you can understand what you are being told. English is the secondary here you require to pass the exam.

The general listening skills are something you need the most. You need proper and attention to listen to anything, and you need to develop the skills like patience, understanding, and giving attention to the speaker. So, listening to TV Shows, Radio, Documentation programs etc. will help you with this.

2. Work on Your vocabulary

Here you will need to decide your purpose. For example, you should watch/read university/college-based movies/ books if you are giving the IELTS Exam for education purpose. This way, you will learn the distinctive vocabulary required in college life.

3. Understand the situation

Before each section, the examiner will tell you about the situation. For example, who is talking to whom, and in which reference? This information will not be repeated in the audio.

When you are entirely aware of the situation and the speaker, you would be able to find meaning, even if you could not understand a few words/lines.

4. Don’t Loose Attention

The worst part about the listening section is that when we miss some word, which is normal, we try to figure out the word in our minds, and forget to listen the upcoming information.

So, the best way is to stay attentive and in the moment. Even if you skip something, leave that bank, and focus on the audio to understand the meaning.

5. Focus on Word Indicators

Give special attention to the words such as “however”, “but”, “then”, “finally”, and so on. These words will help you find out the mood and intention of the speaker. It will help you understand the audio even after skipping certain words.

6. Be patient while writing the answers

Often the wrong information is given to confuse the candidates but corrected in the upcoming sentence. Students who get over-excited after getting the information sometimes make mistakes.

So, you should try to remain calm and patient while writing the answers.

7. Review your test before submitting

You will get 30 seconds after every section. You should utilize this time to review your answer and correct if you have made some silly mistakes such as spellings, singular plural form, or word form.

8. Fill the answer sheet correctly

The IELTS Answer sheets have a separate box for all answers, and you must be very cautious while filling up the sheet.

Sometimes, students get excited and write down the answers in the wrong space. Speaking in laymen’s language, you should write answer 6, in space number 6 only.

9. Attempt all questions

The above situation arises when you don’t attempt some questions and leave blank spaces. For example, you have written the fourth question in space four; then you skipped question no five. In such circumstances, you might fill answer six in space five.

Also, there is no negative marking in IELTS, and you won’t lose marks for wrong answers. So, we would suggest you attempt all the questions.

10. Don’t try to understand everything

You should not try to remember everything. IELTS sometimes loads the audio with additional information to confuse the candidates, and you should only focus on finding your answers.
